Cocktail History
The Under The Mistletoe is a Christmas cocktail that was created at BIG Bar in Chicago, Illinois.
The recipe draws inspiration from the classic Cranberry & Soda but elevates the template with thoughtful, festive ingredients meant to capture the essence of the Christmas season.
It starts with a muddling of tart cranberry and zesty orange in simple syrup, allowing the fresh, bright flavors to meld. This base is then complemented with splashes of dry gin and cranberry juice, both of which provide a crisp and slightly aromatic depth to the drink. And finally, it’s topped with fizzy club soda to give it a light, effervescent finish that makes it refreshing and easy to sip. With its balance of sweet, tart, and citrusy flavors, the Under The Mistletoe is an ideal choice for holiday gatherings, offering a sophisticated yet approachable beverage perfect for toasting with friends and family during Christmastime.

Kendall’s Take
“This drink was described to me as something you could order in a dive bar year-round, and honestly, that’s pretty spot on. The Under The Mistletoe is straightforward in the best way—no wild twists, no overthinking or obscure ingredients—just a solid gin cocktail that does exactly what you want it to do. The fun part is how much it changes depending on the gin you use too, so you can really make it your own. If you’re shopping for a Christmas cocktail that’ll reliably win over gin drinkers, this one’s an easy yes.”
