Cocktail History
The Marmalade Gin Mule is a that was created by Craft Gin Club and was first published in their book Gin O’Clock: A Year of Ginspiration. It’s a winter-inspired variation of the Gin Mule that’s made with just four ingredients: London Dry Gin, lime, ginger beer, and a heaping spoonful of the British breakfast staple orange marmalade.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
Ginger Beer: This is a carbonated beverage made with ginger root, and yeast or ginger culture, water, and sugar, which are infused with carbon dioxide gas to develop a fizzy, spicy flavor.
London Dry Gin: This is a type of gin made by redistilling a neutral spirit with juniper berries and other botanicals without added sweeteners to develop a crisp, dry flavor.
Lime Juice: This is the liquid extracted from the flesh of ripe limes that has a zesty, sour flavor and light green color.
Orange Marmalade: This is a spread made with oranges, sugar, and water, which are cooked down with the orange peels into a thick, slightly bitter jam.
Lime Slice: This is a slice of lime that has been cut into a half wheel shape.
Bartending Tools
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:
Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. I used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Boston Shaker: This is used to shake ingredients. I used the Boston shaker from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Hawthorne Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is shaken. I used the A Bar Above Hawthorne Strainer.
Paring Knife: This is used to cut ingredients. I used the OXO Good Grips 3.5 Inch Paring Knife.
Juicer: This is used to juice citrus. I used the ALEEHAI Manual Fruit Juicer.
Measuring Cups: These are used to measure ingredients. I used one from the OXO Good Grips 8-Piece Stainless Steel Measuring Cups & Spoons Set.

Tasting Notes
This cocktail has the following flavor profile:
• Appearance: Clear icy color
• Aroma: Ginger and botanicals
• Taste: Spicy ginger-forward flavor with strong bittersweet orange marmalade and juniper notes
• Finish: Citrus and more ginger
Kendall’s Take: “This mule tastes so delicious that it’s dangerous! I don’t believe I had ever tried orange marmalade before having it in this cocktail and found it to be more bitter than I expected, an attribute that is definitely noticeable even though the ginger beer is so prominent if you know what it tastes like. The Marmalade Gin Mule would be great for sipping when the weather warms up.”
