Cocktail History
The Miruvor is a modern cocktail that was created by Cassandra Reeder and was first published in her book The Geeky Bartender Drinks: Real-Life Recipes for Fantasy Cocktails. The author describes it as a boozy take on the reviving cordial made by the Elves of Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings series. Apart from its ability to renew the strength of those who consume it, little is known about the drink from the books, but it is said to have been modeled after the nectar of the Valar, which was made from Yavanna’s flowers and honey. This cocktail version takes inspiration from these qualities by pairing floral liqueur and honey syrup with botanical gin and herbal white tea.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
White Tea: This is a delicate type of tea made with the minimally processed leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. I used Twining’s 100% Pure White Tea.
London Dry Gin: This is a type of gin made with juniper berries, botanicals, and alcohol that has been infused with flavor through redistillation without artificial ingredients or colors. I used Broker’s Premium London Dry Gin.
Elderflower Liqueur: This is a liqueur made with elderflowers, citrus, herbs, sugar, and alcohol. I used Edinburgh Gin Distillery Elderflower Gin Liqueur.
Honey Syrup: This is a sweetener made with honey and water. I made mine using this stovetop recipe.
Orange Blossom Water: This is a flavored water made by steeping orange blossoms in water. I used Cortas Premium Orange Blossom Water.
Bartending Tools
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:
Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. I used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Saucepan: This is used to warm the ingredients. I used the Cuisinart 3-Quart Stainless Steel Saucepan with Cover.
Measuring Cup: This is used to transfer hot water to the glass. I used the OXO Good Grips 2-Cup Angled Measuring Cup.
Bar Spoon: This is used to stir ingredients. I used the Barfly Stainless Steel Teardrop Bar Spoon.

Tasting Notes
This cocktail has the following flavor profile:
• Appearance: Soft golden yellow color
• Aroma: Floral and grassy notes with hints of citrus
• Taste: Smooth, warm tea flavor accented by tangy lemon and bright elderflower
• Finish: Sweet honey and more herbal tea
Kendall’s Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Kendall’s Take: “I’m a big fan of The Lord of the Rings and was excited when I came across this recipe. I don’t often try cocktails with a tea base either, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect but ended up thinking it was quite tasty and complex, especially for a warm boozy beverage. You can tell gin is the base spirit, but because I used Broker’s Gin and the other ingredients are so herbal, there’s very little taste of juniper. If you’re into floral, aromatic drinks and are curious what Miruvor might taste like, give this a try. I can’t imagine getting any closer than this cocktail.”
