Cocktail History

The Salted Caramel Apple Martini is an autumn cocktail that was created by Alex Sukopp, former bartender of Sips From Scripts, as a variation of the Candied Apple Moped from Have Yourself a Merry Little Cocktail by Emma Stokes. The author’s version takes the familiar template of a Vesper Martini and turns it autumnal with a flavored vodka and Calvados. This version opts for a salted caramel syrup in place of the flavored vodka for a sweeter taste and more caramel color.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Gin: This is a spirit made with juniper berries, botanicals, and alcohol. I used Durham Distillery Conniption American Dry Gin.

Apple Brandy: This is a type of brandy made with apples, pears, spices, sugar, and alcohol. I used Calvados.

Salted Caramel Syrup: This is a sweetener made with sea salt, cane sugar, natural caramel coloring, and water. I used Monin Premium Salted Caramel Syrup.

Bartending Tools

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:

Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. I used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Mixing Glass: This is used to hold the ingredients while they’re being stirred. I used the Viski 17 oz Cocktail Mixing Glass.

Bar Spoon: This is used to stir ingredients. I used the Barfly Stainless Steel Teardrop Bar Spoon.

Julep Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is stirred. I used the A Bar Above Julep Strainer.

Salted Caramel Apple Martini Cocktail Recipe

Tasting Notes

This cocktail has the following flavor profile:

Appearance: Pale brown color

• Aroma: Caramel and juniper

• Taste: Gin-forward flavor that leads into caramel and apple notes

• Finish: Lingering salted caramel aftertaste

Kendall’s Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Kendall’s Take: “This is a very sophisticated fall cocktail thanks to its bold choice of spirit. Most seasonal recipes are made with a rum or flavored vodka base, but in this dry Martini format, it really works. Although a small amount is used, the salted caramel syrup is also an incredibly delicious and very present addition that gives this drink a hint of fall candy flavor. The Salted Caramel Apple Martini wouldn’t be my first choice for myself, but I would serve this to guests who have a more developed palate.”
