Cocktail History
The British 75 is a modern cocktail that was created by Highclare Castle Gin. It’s a simple variation of the classic French 75 that uses sparkling wine, sugar, lemon, and their London Dry Gin, an award-winning spirit they produce in one of the oldest copper gin stills from the 1800s at England’s oldest gin distillery.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
Sparkling Wine: This is a type of wine made with white grapes and yeast, which are fermented with the skins to produce alcohol and then infused with carbon dioxide gas to develop a pale yellow-green color and crisp, fruity flavor.
Gin: This is a spirit made by redistilling a neutral spirit with juniper berries and other botanicals to develop a distinctive, aromatic flavor.
Lemon Juice: This is the liquid extracted from the flesh of ripe lemons that has a sweet, tangy flavor and light yellow color.
Simple Syrup: This is a sweetener made with white sugar and water, which are heated into a syrup with a sweet flavor.
Lemon Wedge: This is a slice of lemon that has been cut into a wedge shape.
Bartending Tools

Hawthorne Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is shaken. I used the A Bar Above Hawthorne Strainer.

Kendall’s Take: “I won a bottle of Highclere Castle Gin in a contest and, of course, had to whip up this variation of a French 75 they included in their bartender guide since a great spirit is really is what makes this template special. The British 75 is delicious and a great way to spotlight the gin’s flavors.”
