Cocktail History
The Strawberry Pisco Sour is a spring cocktail that was created by Naren Young at Dante in New York City, New York. It uses the classic Pisco Sour‘s template of pisco, a sweetener, citrus, and egg white, but this seasonal version swaps out lemon for lime juice and adds a tart strawberry syrup and light rose water, both of which complement the brandy-style spirit well.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
Pisco: This is a type of brandy made in Peru or Chile with fermented grape juice. We used Capel Pisco Premium Liqueur because it has a high quality flavor with notes of spice and herbs. For a mocktail version of this drink, try Escape Mocktails Non-Alcoholic Cognac Alternative in place of the Pisco.
Strawberry Syrup: This is a sweetener made with strawberries, white sugar, gum Arabic powder, and water. We made ours at home using Alex’s sous vide recipe.
Lime Juice: This is the liquid juice of a lime. We used freshly squeezed lime juice.
Egg White: This is the clear liquid in an egg. We used fresh egg whites because they add a rich, silky smooth texture.
Rose Water: This is a flavored water made by steeping rose petals in water. We used Cortas Premium Rose Water because it’s high quality.
Strawberry: This a small red fruit that is soft and juicy and has yellow seeds on its skin.
Bartending Tools
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:
Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. We used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Paring Knife: This is used to cut citrus into slices or wheels. We used the OXO Good Grips 3.5 Inch Paring Knife.
Juicer: This is used to juice citrus. We used the ALEEHAI Manual Fruit Juicer.
Blender: This is used to blend up ingredients. We used the Cuisinart SPB-7CH SmartPowder Electronic Bar Blender.
Cocktail Pick: This is used to hold the garnish. We used one from the I-MART Stainless Steel Cocktail Pick Set.
Tasting Notes
The Strawberry Pisco Sour starts with fresh aromas of strawberry and rose and a hint of the grape-distilled liquor, has a well-balanced sweet and tart flavor that features strawberry, pisco, and floral notes, and finishes with a lingering fruity finish.
Our Opinion of This Cocktail Recipe: We both equally enjoyed this recipe! The Strawberry Pisco Sour really hits the spot on a warm day, and its combination of flavors is worthy of a spot on your next springtime gathering menu.
Alex’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“This frosé-style drink hits the spot this time of year, when the air is warm but the ground is still cold. The floral essence is present but not overpowering, like many drinks of this season, and the strawberry lends just the right amount of sweetness and depth to the already complex pisco format. The blended style with foamer included is the really unique spot, making for an almost cream-like texture and consistency of the liquid.”
Kendall’s Take: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
“We haven’t explored the world of Pisco cocktails very much yet, so I was excited to see this one pop up as a recommendation for spring. I wasn’t sure that I’d love its frozen blended texture, but I think it was just right for mellowing out the tart strawberry and lime. And the rose, although slightly there in the aroma and not so much the flavor, is a romantic touch. I would add this to a spring brunch menu, for sure. It’s light, fruity, and unique!”
