Cocktail History
The Lost Voyage is a modern tiki cocktail that was created by Michael Kotke at Foundation Tiki Bar in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It calls for a unique split base of rhum agricole and sherry and mixes them with cinnamon syrup, citrus, and a heavy dose of Angostura aromatic bitters.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
Rhum Agricole: This is a type of rum made in the French Caribbean Islands that is distilled from freshly squeezed sugarcane juice. I used Clément Rhum Vieux Agricole VSOP.
Amontillado Sherry: This is a type of medium-dry fortified wine made in Spain with palomino grapes. I used Don Benigno Amontillado Sherry.
Lemon Juice: This is the liquid juice of a lemon. I used freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Orange Juice: This is the liquid juice of an orange. I used freshly squeezed orange juice.
Aromatic Bitters: This is a food product made with botanicals, herbs, and alcohol. I used Angostura Aromatic Bitters.
Orange Slice: This is a slice of orange that has been cut into a half wheel shape.
Mint Sprig: This is an herb. I used Mojito mint.

Tasting Notes
This cocktail has the following flavor profile:

• Aroma: Mint, citrus, and allspice
• Taste: Nutty sherry flavor with the slight funkiness of rum, sweet orange, and hint of spice
• Finish: Earthy sherry and tangy citrus
Kendall’s Rating: ⭐⭐
Kendall’s Take: “This is another drink that had me wondering what to expect before tasting it. I was intrigued by the mixture of rhum agricole (a type of rum new to me) and sherry, but I have to be honest: I ultimately didn’t love it. Even though it was a split base, the sherry was far too overpowering, in my opinion, and the remaining ingredients were just kind of lost. Sherry’s already not my favorite spirit as it is. I like it more when there’s a hint of its flavor among the others, but in the Lost Voyage, it was just too much. The drink is still good, but I think I would’ve liked it more had I had modified the specifications a bit.”
