Cocktail History

The Jet Juice is a Star Wars cocktail that was created at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, an attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida and Anaheim, California. This copycat recipe is meant to be a recreation of a beverage made by starship pilots in the Star Wars universe that is referred to as “engine room hooch.” It starts with a spiced bourbon base and mixes it with a disparate list of ingredients, including hot pepper and açaí liqueurs, white grape juice, and lemon.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Bourbon: This is a type of whiskey made in the United States with at least 51% corn, grains, malted barley, and water. This recipe specifically calls for Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky.

Ancho Chile Liqueur: This is a liqueur made with ancho chile peppers, spices, sugar, and alcohol. This recipe specifically calls for Ancho Reyes Original Ancho Chile Liqueur.

Açaí Liqueur: This is a liqueur made with açai berries, sugar, and alcohol. This recipe specially calls for Cedilla Açaí Liqueur, but I used FAIR Açaí Liqueur.

White Grape Juice: This is the liquid juice of a green grape. I used Welch’s 100% White Grape Juice.

Lemon Juice: This is the liquid juice of a lemon. I used freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Bartending Tools

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:

Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. I used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Boston Shaker: This is used to shake ingredients. I used the Boston shaker from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Hawthorne Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is shaken. I used the A Bar Above Hawthorne Strainer.

Paring Knife: This is used to cut ingredients. I used the OXO Good Grips 3.5 Inch Paring Knife.

Juicer: This is used to juice citrus. I used the ALEEHAI Manual Fruit Juicer.

Tasting Notes

This cocktail has the following flavor profile:

Appearance: Vibrant brown-ish orange color

• Aroma: Wheated bourbon and grape

• Taste: Complicated flavor combination that showcases bourbon and lemon before transitioning to spicy pepper

• Finish: Sweet grape and slightly bitter açaí

Kendall’s Take: “If you read up on the history of this drink, the combination of flavors lent by its disparate list of ingredients makes a lot more sense. I wouldn’t call it very palatable, especially give that it’s known as the ‘engine room hooch’ in the Star Wars universe, but it is interesting. I think bourbon drinkers would whip this up and be satisfied, but it is an odd drink. I don’t think I’m a fan of mixing the white grape juice with the bourbon and would maybe omit that if I made the Jet Juice again, but if you want a true recipe, this is pretty close.”

This cocktail recipe was adapted from the menu at Oga’s Cantina, a restaurant and bar located at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. The specifications are an estimate based on our best guess for a well-balanced drink as well as reader feedback.
