Cocktail History

The Snowy Morning Mimosa is a winter cocktail that was created by food writer and author Jessica Strand and was first published in her book Very Merry Cocktails: 50+ Festive Drinks for the Holiday Season. While the original recipe combined just sparkling white wine and white cranberry juice for a crisp and elegant drink, this updated version enhances the flavor profile with white cranberry peach juice, lending a sweeter, fruitier twist, and it heightens its visual appeal with a touch of blue curaçao that creates a stunning pale hue reminiscent of snow-covered mornings.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Sparkling Wine: This is a type of wine made with white or red grapes and infused with carbon dioxide. I used Schramsberg Vineyard Mirabelle Brut.

White Cranberry Peach Juice: This is a fruit juice made with white cranberry juice concentrate, peach juice concentrate, grape juice concentrate, sugar, and water. I used Ocean Spray White Cranberry Peach Juice.

Blue Curaçao: This is a liqueur made with oranges, sugar, spices, blue food coloring, alcohol, and water. I used Bols Blue Curaçao.

Bartending Tools

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:

Bar Mat: This is a rubber or silicone mat that’s placed on the bar surface to catch spills, provide grip for glasses and tools, and keep the workspace clean and organized. I used the Highball & Chaser 18×12 Bar Mat.

Jigger: This is a small, double-sided measuring tool that’s used to accurately portion spirits and mixers, typically with one side measuring 1 oz and the other 1.5 or 2 oz. I used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Bar Spoon: This is a long-handled spoon with a twisted shaft that’s used for stirring, layering, and reaching the bottom of tall cocktail glasses. I used the Barfly Stainless Steel Teardrop Bar Spoon.

Champagne Glass: This is a tall, narrow glass that has a slender bowl and long stem to preserve carbonation and concentrate aromas. I used a thrifted champagne glass.

Snowy Morning Mimosa Cocktail Recipe

Tasting Notes

This cocktail has the following flavor profile:

Appearance: Brilliant teal blue color

• Aroma: Sparkling wine and fruity peach

• Taste: Off-dry brut champagne flavor sweetened with citrus and peach

• Finish: More tangy orange and bitter cranberry

Kendall’s Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kendall’s Take: “I typically steer clear of kitschy dyed drinks, but I made the conscious choice to add some blue curaçao to this recipe even though it didn’t call for it, just for a little something extra. I also couldn’t find white cranberry juice, so I subbed in a white cranberry and peach mixture, and it wouldn’t have been anywhere close to as tasty without it, in my opinion. Although maybe a hint too prominent, the peach was delicious when mixed with the bubbly. The Snowy Morning Mimosa probably wouldn’t be a first pick for the serious imbiber, but it would be tasty and fun for a wintertime brunch. You can’t really knock it!”
