Cocktail History
The Eauxdvi is a modern cocktail that was created by Alex Sukopp, former bartender of Sips From Scripts, for ODVI, a brand of Armagnac that was made with cocktail lovers in mind. The recipe pairs the French spirit with cinnamon, herbs, citrus, and bitters, and its name was inspired by the ODVI brand itself, which is already a play on words in that it’s pronounced “eau-de-vie” like the spirit. It then throws in a twist by exchanging the “O” for “Eaux” as a nod to our town’s signature silent “x” that’s often added to event names, one of which is the Eaux Claires Music Festival.
Cocktail Ingredients
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:
Armagnac: This is a type of brandy made in Armagnac, France with distilled white wine. I used ODVI Armagnac.
Cinnamon Syrup: This is a sweetener made with cinnamon sticks, white sugar, gum arabic powder, saline solution, and water. I made it using this sous vide recipe.
Bénédictine: This is a liqueur made in France with twenty-seven herbs and spices, sugar, and alcohol.
Lemon Bitters: This is a food product made with lemon, botanicals, herbs, and alcohol. I used Fee Brothers Lemon Bitters.
Aromatic Bitters: This is a food product made with botanicals, herbs, and alcohol. I used Angostura Aromatic Bitters.
Lemon Peel: This the peel of a lemon that has been cut into a strip.
Bartending Tools
To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:
Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. I used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Mixing Glass: This is used to hold the ingredients while they’re being stirred. I used the Viski 17 oz Cocktail Mixing Glass.
Bar Spoon: This is used to stir ingredients. I used the Barfly Stainless Steel Teardrop Bar Spoon.
Julep Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is stirred. I used the A Bar Above Julep Strainer.
Ice Mold: This is used to make a clear ice cube. I used the BERLINZO Premium Clear Ice Cube Maker Mold.
Peeler: This is used to remove the garnish peel from the citrus. I used the OXO Good Grips 2-Piece Peeler Set.

Tasting Notes
This cocktail has the following flavor profile:
• Appearance: Light yellow color
• Aroma: Brandy and citrus
• Taste: Peppery, fruity, and spicy brandy flavor with notes of peach and cinnamon
• Finish: Unique herbs and citrus
Kendall’s Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Kendall’s Take: “I had never tried an Armagnac before this tasting and really liked its complexity. This recipe in particular was a little too booze-forward for my palate, but I can see fellow Eau Clairians who frequently drink the iconic Brandy Old Fashioned you see all over Wisconsin enjoying the Eauxdvi and its serious flavor profile. Now that I have a bottle of ODVI though, I’ll definitely be trying it in other brandy recipes that are a little sweeter.”
