Cocktail History

The Apple Cider Mimosa is an autumn cocktail that was created by Laura Rege of Delish, an online food and beverage blog. Instead of the usual Mimosa’s orange juice, the recipe calls for fresh apple cider, bringing a seasonal sweetness that pairs perfectly with sparkling wine. A dash of cinnamon on top adds extra warmth and spice, making it an ideal drink for fall brunches or any cozy gathering.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

Sparkling Wine: This is a type of wine made with white or red grapes and infused with carbon dioxide. I used La Marca Prosecco.

Apple Cider: This is a beverage made with freshly pressed apple juice and baking spices. I used The Glass Orchard Apple Cider.

Ground Cinnamon: This is a finely milled spice made with the inner bark of cinnamon trees. I used Simply Organic Ground Cinnamon.

Apple: This is a red fruit with a mealy texture. I used a Honeycrisp apple.

Bartending Tools

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following bar tools:

Bar Mat: This is a rubber or silicone mat that’s placed on the bar surface to catch spills, provide grip for glasses and tools, and keep the workspace clean and organized. I used the Highball & Chaser 18×12 Bar Mat.

Jigger: This is a small, double-sided measuring tool that’s used to accurately portion spirits and mixers, typically with one side measuring 1 oz and the other 1.5 or 2 oz. I used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Bar Spoon: This is a long-handled spoon with a twisted shaft that’s used for stirring, layering, and reaching the bottom of tall cocktail glasses. I used the Barfly Stainless Steel Teardrop Bar Spoon.

Apple Corer: This is a kitchen tool with sharp blades arranged in a circular pattern and a handle that’s used to core and slice an apple into uniform wedges with a single press. I used the OXO Good Grips Apple Corer, Slicer, & Divider.

Champagne Glass: This is a tall, narrow glass that has a slender bowl and long stem to preserve carbonation and concentrate aromas. I used a thrifted champagne glass.

Apple Cider Mimosa Cocktail Recipe

Tasting Notes

This cocktail has the following flavor profile:

Appearance: Light golden hue with a bubbly effervescence

• Aroma: Fresh apple and cinnamon

• Taste: Crisp, sweet apple cider balanced by the dryness of the sparkling wine

• Finish: Clean and fizzy with a lingering hint of tart apple

Kendall’s Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kendall’s Take: “Call me crazy, but I am not a huge fan of the classic Mimosa. I’ve never been big on drinking orange juice in general, so as much as I love sparkling wine, I really don’t love it mixed with citrus juice and much prefer it on its own. This version is unique because it swaps out the orange for spiced apple cider, which I quite enjoyed compared to the original. It’s seasonal and pretty delicious for what it is, but admittedly, it didn’t blow me away because its name pretty much says it all. That’s the beauty of simple cocktail like this though. Make the Apple Cider Mimosa at a fall brunch, and it’s sure to be a hit with most guests.
