The Park Avenue is a bubbly cocktail that was created by bar manager and author Nick Mautone and was first published in his book The Artisanal Kitchen: Holiday Cocktails. It's made by mixing sparkling wine with spiced Cognac, citrus, and a unique homemade red wine syrup.

Sparkling Wine: This is a carbonated wine made with white or red grapes. I used Villa Bellezza Winery Brillante.
Cognac: This is a type of brandy made in Cognac, France with distilled white wine. The recipe calls for Cognac, but I used Driftless Glen Distillery 5 Year Reserve Brandy.
Orange Curaçao: This is a liqueur made with oranges, sugar, and brandy or rum. I used Grand Marnier Cordon Rouge.
Red Wine Syrup: This is a sweetener made with Cabernet Sauvignon and sugar. I made mine using this stovetop recipe.

Jigger: This is used to measure and pour ingredients. I used the Japanese jigger from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.
Bar Spoon: This is used to stir ingredients. I used the Barfly Stainless Steel Teardrop Bar Spoon.

I don't think I would've ever come up with the idea of using a red wine syrup in a sparkling wine cocktail, but it adds a delicious, rich depth to the drink, as well as a unique bitter bite in the aftertaste. The author called it 'an acquired taste,' and I would agree that it might take a few sips to truly appreciate this drink. If you want a sparkler that's outside of the box, the Park Avenue is a great one."
