Cocktail History

The Fig Daiquiri is an autumn cocktail that was created by author Jassy Davis and was first published in her book Winter Warmers: 60 Cosy Cocktails for Autumn & Winter. It's an easy variation of the classic Daiquiri template that uses the original's white rum base and citrus juice but calls for crème de figue for added earthy flavor. This recipe, however, uses a homemade fig syrup in place of the liqueur.

Cocktail Ingredients

To make this cocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

White Rum: This is a type of rum made with molasses or sugar cane juice and alcohol that is filtered and bottled right away without the aging process. I used The Real McCoy 3 Year Old White Rum.

Lime Juice: This is the liquid juice of a lime. I used freshly squeezed lime juice.

Fig Syrup: This is a sweetener made with black mission figs, white sugar, gum Arabic powder, and water. I made mine using this sous vide recipe.

Fig Slice: This is a black mission fig that has been sliced in half.

Boston Shaker: This is used to shake ingredients. I used the Boston shaker from the A Bar Above 14-Piece Silver Bar Set.

Hawthorne Strainer: This is used to strain out ice and solid ingredients after the cocktail is shaken. I used the A Bar Above Hawthorne Strainer.

Paring Knife: This is used to cut ingredients. I used the OXO Good Grips 3.5 Inch Paring Knife.

Juicer: This is used to juice citrus. I used the ALEEHAI Manual Fruit Juicer.

Cocktail Pick: This is used to hold the garnish. I used one from the I-MART Stainless Steel Cocktail Pick Set.

Tasting Notes

This cocktail has the following flavor profile:

Appearance: Pale pink color

• Aroma: Earthy stone fruit

• Taste: Light and tart citrus, spicy rum, and fig

• Finish: Tangy lime

Kendall’s Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kendall’s Take: "I had never tried fresh figs before I bought some for the syrup used in this recipe. They have such a unique earthy flavor that does a good job of balancing out the citrus in this Daiquiri. In my opinion, this is a damn good drink and a really good seasonal take on what’s usually a tropical cocktail. It does still have a bit of that quality, but the Fig Daiquiri is more muted and seasonally appropriate in this version."
